Job Description

Purpose The HSE Officer will effectively provide a professional service in terms of Health, Safety and Environmental conformance. This position is responsible and accountable for assisting management with implementing, managing and continuously improving health, safety and environmental management systems, procedures and work practices and maintaining compliance with the requirements of external health, safety and environmental certifications Duties include • Ensure compliance to Health and Safety Standards, ISO 14001 and OSHAS 18000 standards • Effective management of occupational health, safety and environmental incidents, accidents and emergencies • Develop a positive occupational health and safety culture • Perform gap analysis and identify improvement opportunities • Facilitate and participate in internal audits • Implement corrective and preventative actions • Training od employees on requirements • Update SHE documentation in the integrated QSHE management system • Ensure compliance to HSE procedures by all staff and contractors • Monitor compliances • Monitor and measure environmental performance in accordance with Municipal requirements and Environmental Aspects Register • Participate in and provide management information on HSE performance in management reviews • Monitor, measure and compile HSE statistics • Schedule and co-ordinate emergency drills • Perform Incident investigations • Perform root cause analysis • Perform risk assessments • Communicate HSE objectives and targets to the shop floor • Coach Health and Safety Reps • Perform safety induction training • Pro-actively manage ongoing legal licencing and re-licencing

Candidate Qualifications

• Occupational Health and Safety Diploma • SAMTRAC or NOSA certification • Knowledge of OSH Act, National Environmental Management Act, COID Act • OSHAS 18000 Auditor • ISO14001 Auditor • HACCP Training

Candidate Skills

• Previous experience with injuries and environmental incidents including submission of statutory documents • Experience in the management of hazardous chemical substances • Experience in performing risk assessments and root cause analysis
